Finnur Eiriksson and Erna Síf Ólafsdóttir are the passionate team behind Hof Garðyrkja, a small microgreens producer located on the Reykjanes Peninsula.

Their journey began in their garage at home, where Finnur, a gardening expert, and Erna started experimenting with innovative growing methods. Using YouTube as a learning tool and their own resourcefulness, they successfully developed their first crops. By September 2023, they were proud to make their first sale, even inviting chefs to taste-test their produce.
Finnur and Erna liked to called themselves the “Hofsprettur”, the sprout from Hof.

Sustainability is at the heart of Hof Garðyrkja’s operation.

They are committed to avoiding plastic entirely, including in their packaging for soil and seeds. They are minimising their water consumption by ensuring every drop is used efficiently. In addition, Hof is working with a wind engineer based in Spain to explore renewable energy options for their operation and reduce their carbon footprint further.

Hof Garðyrkja chose Iceland Eco-Business Park (IEBP) as a partner for its alignment with their vision of sustainability, innovation, and community collaboration. IEBP’s exciting project, the proximity to their home in Keflavík, and shared focus on environmentally-conscious solutions make it an ideal fit for the Horfsprettur to grow their business.

Hof Garðyrkja’s team is fully committed to expanding their vegetable farming operation and aims to produce unique, sustainable vegetables for Icelandic restaurants all year round. Their dream is to participate in improving food security while being a model for small-scale, eco-friendly farming.

The IEBP team is extending its warm welcome to Finnur and Erna into our facilities.

We wish to see their business sprout as well as their production and we are delighted to have them bring an healthy touch into our plate in Reykjanes!
